Solar WWW.ENF.CN Launches : European & Chinese Solar Company Directories

ENF’s core offering is a database of photovoltaic companies in Europe and China, with information about what products each manufacturer is offering. In most other sites it costs extra money for them to include their logo and website link, however in ENF’s database these things are collected as standard. Both having the company listed and reading through the information are free of charge, and don’t even require registration.

Apart from installation companies, ENF have decided to focus on just those companies that manufacture the pv products themselves. This misses out a large number of companies, as many companies are involved in buying and selling of solar products. However, the entry barriers (how much it costs to start such a business) are very low, which means these companies can come and go quite quickly – especially in China.

The website, which launched in September, is available in both English and Chinese:

English version: http://www.enf.cn/
Chinese version: www.enf.cn/ch/

There are five main categories of company that are collected:

- Companies that manufacture solar cells, modules or panels

www.enf.cn/database/panels.html

- Companies that manufacture equipment used to make solar cells, modules or panels

www.enf.cn/database/equipment.html

- Companies that manufacture pv components (either material components such as ingots, wafers etc. or accessories such as batteries, inverters etc.)

- Companies that manufacture products that use solar cells or panels

www.enf.cn/database/products.html

- Companies that install solar modules or panels into buildings as integrated electrical systems - building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) installers

The staff are also based in both Europe and China, with 2 people in Surrey, UK; and 5 in Anhui, China.

The staff of ENF

The website contains both business and technical news. However, rather than just repeat press releases – ENF gathers further information directly from the companies or research laboratories in order to offer more balanced and insightful news. The site is a great source of information on Chinese companies as most of what happens in China doesn’t get picked up by the Western press.

There are two further sections in the site which have been recently launched. There is a solar magazine, which launched it's first issue on October 1st. The first magazine is contains articles on solar power company IPO offerings; and a look at the PV market in rural China. The other recently launched section is a list of government solar power contracts open for tender in Europe, with China tenders expected to go on-line in the coming weeks.
