gfoat writes "Groupe Eurotunnel as a global organisation has just been certified by the independent British organisation Carbon Trust Standard for its policy and achievements in carbon footprint reduction. The Carbon Trust Standard has calculated specifically that, for the period 2009/2010, the transport system which makes up the cross-Channel Fixed Link has further reduced its carbon footprint by 20.5%, after taking into account that two years ago between 2006 and 2008 Eurotunnel had already reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 44%. "

Energy Efficiency BC : Rollout of Smart Meters Provides Major Benefits

gfoat writes "BC Hydro, the third largest electric utility in Canada, today announced the advancement of its Smart Metering & Infrastructure Program with the selection of Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services. The three-year contract with Capgemini is worth an estimated $63 million CAD (approximately €48 million). The Smart Metering Program, including the installation of new digital meters, is a key first step in delivering a modern electricity grid for the benefit of BC Hydro customers. "

gfoat writes "The Barclays Premier League club’s on-going commitment to ‘go green’ has produced another great result with carbon emissions down by 270,000 tonnes, saving the club around £60,000 per year. A new commercial energy efficient condensing boiler, heat recovery ventilation system and full replacement lighting system have been installed at Ewood Park following a comprehensive site audit by Preston-based GB Energy."

gfoat writes "For the first time in the UK, researchers from the University of Bath are working with RWE npower in a groundbreaking project exploring the potential energy savings of using a localised DC (Direct Current) electricity supply network. Professor Raj Aggarwal and Dr Miles Redfern, from the University’s Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, are leading the project that will set up 50 computers in the University library to draw their energy from a specially created local DC network."

Most customers are already familiar with energy efficiency labelling on white goods like fridges and washing machines, but Tesco will be the first retailer to introduce a similar scheme to smaller products from light bulbs to microwaves."
